Action Covers or.....?

I put a lot of consideration into what a cover looks like whether for a prose book or a comic or graphic novel.

With Return of the Gods the 98pp version had an image of Jack Flash on it. When I bumped the page count up to 360pp I wanted a more striking cover. The same with The Cross Earths Caper and then the final parts of the trilogy (books I-III).

The idea was to get away from the need to show lots of super heroes fighting and action scenes. People who got copies thought the covers worked and that it did make a change. So why are the books not selling? Could it be that I made a massive error in not showing action scenes on the covers?

I really have no idea. The covers are meant to intrigue and get you to open up the books and read them. Making some covers a tad more arty in away and showing that books with super heroes, sci fi, horror all mixed together do not have to resort to the traditional action covers. I see a number of publishers in the United States and Europe who publish black and white comics so that should not be a problem.

Perhaps the books do need action covers to sell?
